The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), an ISO 17065 accredited organization, has determined that Dicor’s Polar White RV roof membrane meets the requirements described in the ANSI/CRRC S100 Standard and the CRRC-1 Program Manual. The product listing resulted after measuring both Solar Reflectance and Thermal Emittance.
The ability of a roof to reflect sunlight is critical in keeping the interior of an RV cool, which reduces energy consumption from air conditioning. Solar Reflectivity is the measure of a material’s ability to reflect solar energy back into the atmosphere. The higher the number the cooler the interior. In testing by an independent third party, Dicor’s DiFlex II Polar White was determined to be 86 percent reflective. In comparison, aluminum has a Solar Reflectivity of 61 percent, while white acrylic paint has a Solar Reflectivity of 80 percent.
The Solar Reflective Index (SRI) goes one step further and takes into account the material’s ability to release residual heat that has been absorbed by the material. A higher value indicates a cooler interior. The same independent third party testing showed that Dicor’s Polar White earned a 108 rating. In comparison, aluminum has a SRI of 50, while white acrylic paint has a SRI of 100.
“We are extremely excited to meet the requirements and be listed by the Cool Roof Rating Council. It confirms what we’ve said all along that DiFlex II Polar White is a cool RV roofing material.” Said Tom Grubaugh, national OEM sales manager for Dicor Products. “Our customers asked us to help find ways to keep their RV’s cooler. We listened to them and the result is DiFlex II Polar White.”
