How thick is the roofing membrane?

Brite-Ply EPDM: .035″ Thick
BriteTEK TPO: .030″ Thick

DiFlex II TPO: 0.027” Thick

Tufflex PVC: 0.027” Thick

Crossflex: 0.022 Thick

Lap Sealant cure times.

Approximate Lap Sealant Cure Times for 50-70° F weather:

5 Minutes – Skins over
4 Hours – Waterproof
48 Hours – Cure 80%
30 Days – 100% Cure

Why does your Lap Sealant contain petroleum distillates, yet you tell people not to use products containing petroleum distillates?

The petroleum distillate used in our lap Sealant is used strictly in the curing process. As the material cures, the petroleum distillate evaporates. When we say not to use petroleum distillates on the roof we mean products that sit on the roof (cleaners, conditioners, UV resistors, etc).

Can I buy directly from Dicor?

No. Our products are sold through local RV dealers and Camping World.

What does "EPDM" stand for?

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer

What does "TPO" stand for?

Thermoplastic Polyolefin

Will my Brite-Ply EPDM roof oxidize?

Yes. It’s suppose to. In a dozen years it may oxidize 10% of it’s thickness. This is normal. Cleaning it at least 4 times a year using a medium bristle brush will greatly help. Dicor Roof Gard will help fill in the pores of the membrane and help keep it cleaner.

Do I need special materials to maintain my roof?

No. We do recommend you use Dicor products for maintenance simply due to the fact that all of our products have been thoroughly tested and approved. We know the products are safe and effective for maximum care and maintenance of your roof.

What do I need to care for my roof?

Periodic cleaning (see Dicor care & maintenance instructions). We recommend you stay away from anything that smells “fruity” or “flowery”. These smells will attract birds, bees, squirrels, raccoons & other “critters”.

How long can I expect my roof to last?

If properly maintained, the roof should last a minimum of 20 years. The membrane itself has been weather tested for 20 years.

What is the warranty of my roof?

EPDM Warranty: OEM, Aftermarket
DiFlex II TPO Warranty: OEM, Aftermarket
Tufflex PVC Warranty: Limited Lifetime Warranty
Crossflex Warranty: OEM, Aftermarket

Why is the warranty only offered to the original purchaser?

Due to the contingency of the warranty being that the roof be properly maintained, once a unit has changed hands several times, care and maintenance cannot be confirmed. Basic industry warranty limits are to the first owner only.

Is there an extended warranty offered?

No. Dicor does not offer an extended warranty.

Is the warranty transferable?

No. The warranty is only offered to the original purchaser and cannot be transferred.

If you are going to buy a used unit, is there a way to tell if previous owners used petroleum distillates on the roof?

Yes, two things. First, swelling, an uneven thickness of material. Second, loose areas. Petroleum distillates will cause the membrane to swell or balloon.

My roof has air bubbles. Is this normal?

Typically, if air bubbles occur they occur during or very soon after the roof has been applied. A couple of reasons for the air bubbles would be that they were not broomed out during application, and we ask the installer not to stretch the material during installation to allow for expansion and contraction of the membrane. Air bubbles will occur with weather conditions and humidity. Air bubbles can also occur at the seams of the roof decking due to flexing and twisting that occurs during transit. Sometimes they occur if there is a significant difference in the temperature between the inside and outside of the unit.

Will the air bubble effect the performance of my roof?

No. The air bubbles will not blow up and pop. They will come and go with the weather conditions, humidity, etc. Please do not puncture the air bubbles. Air bubbles mean there is room for expansion and contraction, lessening the chance of stress cracks later.

Is it easy to repair tears in the roof membrane?

Yes. Any tear in an EPDM roof membrane can be repaired using a number of repair methods. Dicor has developed several prepackaged peel and stick repair kits that work well on tears.

If my roof has to be repaired, how long should I expect the patch to last?

If the repair is applied properly, the patch should last the duration of the membrane. It should be checked periodically.

My roof has developed mold/mildew. Can this be cleaned?

There isn’t anything in the chemical makeup of the membrane that will promote the growth of mold/mildew. Dicor has developed cleaning instructions for mold/mildew. These instructions can be downloaded here. Note: It is recommended the instructions be printed and read prior to using the cleaning procedure.

Are there any other cautions concerning the roof membrane?

We would suggest you use extreme caution when working on the top of the vehicle. The wet membrane may be extremely slippery.

  • Do not use cleaners or conditioners containing petroleum distillates, harsh abrasives, or citric based cleaners.
  • Beware of areas where fruit, tree sap or harsh environmental fall-out may stay on the roof for an extended period of time. These conditions may result in unremoveable stains. You may have to increase the frequency of your cleaning or premature deterioration may occur.
Why is my 501-sealant bubbling/ rippling after application?

Our sealant contains a small amount of petroleum distillates which can cause bubbling and rippling during the curing process. This is normal and typically goes away within a week or two.

*Curing process may vary due to cooler temperatures.

Why is my roof lifting where I’ve applied the 501 sealant, and will it lay back down?

This happens during the curing process when the solvents cure out and “bite” into the membrane for the best seal. After the sealant is cured, you will see the membrane lay back down. This process can take up to two weeks.

*Curing process may vary due to cooler temperatures.

What is the shelf life for Dicor Sealants?

Shelf life for an unopened tube of sealant is 4 years.

What is the shelf life for coatings and adhesives?

Shelf life for unopened coatings and adhesives is 1 year.

Why are there bubbles on my roof after coating?

This is a sign that some kind of moisture came into contact with your roof. After coating your roof, it must remain free of all moisture (rain, dew, etc.) for 48 hours in order for the coating to fully cure.

How long should I wait to walk on my roof after doing the first coating?

You should wait 1.5-2 hours after the initial coat before applying the second coat.

Why do I have to hang plastic around my coach during the coating process?

When using Step 1 Cleaner/Activator, we want to ensure the run off during the rinsing process, does not cause streaking to your sidewalls or decals.

Can I do my sealants and coating in the same day?

No. You will want to do your sealants 2 weeks prior to coating your roof so it has plenty of time to cure.

What kind of roller do I use to coat my roof?

You want to use a medium nap roller for your coatings.

Can I use the adhesives to adhere rubber to rubber?

No. Rubber and rubber will not provide a porous surface for the adhesive to cure into.

Can I use the current lauan/ plywood when replacing a roof?

No. You MUST replace the decking any time a roof replacement is done. The adhesive requires a porous substrate to ensure the best adhesion for the membrane.

Can I use duct tape on my seams when installing DIFLEX II or TUFFLEX?

No. The duct tape is not porous so there won’t be proper adhesion at those points. The adhesive can pull the color from the tape and transfer it to the membrane causing discoloration. We recommend mesh tape or fleece tape with a cloth backing.

Is it okay to coat my roof in direct sunlight?

No. This can cause the coating to cure too quickly and can potentially cause the coating to flake off.
